We have urgent appointments with the duty doctor for the same day that you contact us or for the next day; to see the doctor face-to-face or to speak on the telephone; also to see the nurse when she can help.
By offering these various urgent appointments, we try to avoid a situation where all the urgent appointments are taken early in the day leaving none for patients who contact us a bit later in the day with very urgent problems.
When the Receptionist asks you for some information about your problem this is not to try and stop you seeing the doctor – our receptionists scored high on recent surveys for being friendly and helpful! It is to help get the right kind of appointment for you, whilst leaving appointments available for other patients with urgent problems too.
Please be assured that all our staff work according to the same professional confidentiality codes as the doctors and nurses so you can be confident that any information you give our reception staff will be used only as needed for your care.
If your problem is urgent we will do our best to help you. If you problem is less urgent we will also do our best to help you, just not quite as soon! We appreciate that for you a problem may seem urgent, but from a medical point of view some patients’ problems could be dealt with as effectively in a routine appointment.
Please tell us if you think you could wait until the next available routine appointment
