Macmillan nurses

Macmillan nurses are nurse specialists who provide advice and support to people with cancer both in hospital and at home. They help control symptoms and can help at any stage of cancer. They often liaise between patients, relatives, GPs and the hospital to improve quality of life for the whole family during a stressful time. Some Macmillan nurses are qualified counsellors and can help to support close relatives and provide bereavement counselling.

District Nurses

If you are looking for nursing help, your GP, ward nurse or hospital doctor can refer you to the district nurses. These are experienced, qualified nurses who can help with any nursing procedure at home, such as dressings or helping with giving medicines. They can arrange for you to have help with basic nursing care – bathing for example.

Domestic Help

If you need domestic help (shopping, cooking or laundry), you can try getting a home help from social services. They can also help with the provision of Lifeline devices for the elderly who live alone. Talk to your social worker, district nurse or GP to arrangea social services assessment. 

Citizens Advice Bureau

If you need help with advice on welfare benefits, financial issues, employment, consumer problems, relationships, housing and legal issues in a confidential and familiar setting, you can make an appointment to see an adviser at the Surgery, who visits weekly usually on a Monday.
